A relative was here for 3 weeks-in one 12 hour period-we waited 15 minutes 2 times to have our senior's diaper changed. After notifying the nursing station via the button-both times a voice came on and said someone would be in shortly to change it. After 15 minutes of waiting-I actually went and got someone to come and change it-both times. Day shift and night shift. 5th floor. GIven the fact that I was bedside with relatives for 12 hrs. a day for half of the 3 weeks-I got an eye opening experience of what minimum standard of care is all about. The hospitalist (doctor) was as good a guesser as I was. Of course-he was 28 years old. It seems like everyone is off for the weekend-yet come monday morning-all is busy busy. (I wonder if the patients who need care on the weekend-don't really need it on the weekend? Kinda like saying-we are only a hospital during business hours/days ?) Another experience-nobody did anything about the bedsores until I pointed them out? Sure everyone seems friendly-and yes there were a few really good workers-but the overall experience was NOT a good one.
