| - Lux is a solid go to whenever I'm in Phoenix. Delicious pastries, breakfasts and solid baristas preparing solid espresso drinks; the last of which is not easy to find in Phoenix (my guess is due to the heat and locals' preference for cold bevvies). Normally a place this good I'd give 5 stars to. I'm a regular when in town, the service is excellent, the space is cool and for a more food centered establishment they make great coffee beverages. My issue is 1) the price of their coffee drinks. I am sympathetic to the rising costs of coffee but given the cost of living in Phoenix (and rents) combined with the fact that their coffee drinks, while good, are not top tier: $4.50 for an 8oz latte is way above the market. In San Diego, where all costs are significantly higher in running a business, I can get the same drink for $3.25 to $3.75. That's a large variance percentage wise. Issue 2) throw me a bone on some healthier options. Lux has the capacity to make healthy items but just opts to generously use oil, butter, or what have you. I frankly find this is a Phoenix phenomena, but would have expected a place like Lux to offer some slightly lighter food options. Even if it is just one for each meal of the day. And vegetarian doesn't automatically qualify as light as an aside!
My nitpicking aside, I highly recommend Lux, but know your wallet will be lighter and you will be heavier.
