| - Hadn't been to El Chorro since new management took over. What a disappointment! Weekday happy hour starts at 4:00. Ordered a drink inside at the bar while waiting for my Meetup group, about 30 of us. Wasn't sure which patio we were meeting on, so I asked my server, she didn't know. 5 minutes later, I ask to close out. She informed me that since I'm part of a large group it's one tab. I'm inside, sitting alone, and she refused to let me pay? Brings a "manager" to explain it to me. There are 2 guys sitting at the bar. I ask "Do they get separate checks?". No, they'll only split it down the middle. Also, policy is any 6 or more people it's 25% gratuity. So, bring your friends, just pretend like you don't know each other. Server gave me lip, so no tip. That's my policy. Finally get my check & was charged full price for my so-called happy hour drink. Maybe that's another wacky policy they have.
Been to Meetups all over the Valley. Never had this happen. Our organizer confirmed it all in advance, but El Chorro would rather choke on its policies. Anyway, I'm glad it did. Hadn't checked out the Hearth 61 bar across the street at the new Mountain Shadows. Beautiful! They welcomed us with open arms, lovely service, separate checks & no lip.
