This is the perfect little ice cream shop. Some of the flavors are a bit out there, some are just pushing the boundaries of what is expected, and some are classics that you know and love. What they all have in common is that they are goooooood. I got the small serving (the small can include two scoops of one or two flavors; the large can include three of one, two or three flavors) and it was the mostly perfectly portioned serving of deliciousness. I went for a combination of Garden Mint and, at the suggestion of the guy behind the counter, Brown Butter with Lavender Brittle. The mint ice cream... what is there to say about the mint ice cream. Firstly, it wasn't that sickly fake green color of fake mint flavor. Nosiree. This was real, honest to goodness mint from the garden and it was to die for. As for the brown butter with lavender brittle, you're probably thinking, "Shouldn't lavender be reserved for hand soaps and scented candles?" Though I've never really thought of lavender as a particularly mouthwatering flavor, after having this ice cream, I would answer with a resounding "NOOO!" The strength of this flavor (and, I'm going to go out on a limb here, probably all Churned flavors) comes from its subtlety. The brown butter base gives just the slightest taste of sweetness and warmth, and the lavender brittle provides texture and a certain savoriness.
Clearly I am a fan.
Clearly I need to go back stat and try all the other flavors. If they're anything like the ones I tried (and I haven't even gone into detail about my ice cream companion's picks, which were equally good), I know I'll be in for a treat.
