| - Since I decided to try this place based on the positive reviews, I thought I should write one myself to try to dissuade others from making the same mistake. I asked for a massage that would work out the knots in my back and the masseuse recommended deep tissue. It sounded good, but in fact involved techniques that just used light touches to release tension. I later looked up these techniques (craniosacral) and found that there is much debate around their efficacy, and even their safety. Throughout the hour she only did about five minutes of traditional massage on my back (massage that actually felt like it was working on my muscles) and at the end she did a full body massage for about 15 minutes, which was relaxing but hardly helpful, and not what I had asked her to focus on. To be fair, at no point did I complain. I put my faith in this professional, and believed her when she said that I would feel the positive results in the following days. On the contrary, my neck and back felt much, much worse afterward, and continued to feel that way for days. My muscles were sore and tense, and I had difficultly bending my neck on the side she worked on.
On top of it all, the masseuse brought up the $10 extra cost of the "deep tissue" during my massage, which seemed like a very inappropriate time. (I agreed to pay it as I'm not one to make a scene and was not in the mood to negotiate while receiving a massage.) Finally, the people at the front desk tried to charge me an additional $30 for no discernible reason - an amount that was never quoted to me. Thankfully, the masseuse did stand up for me at this point, however when all was said and done it still came out to $100 for a whole lot of nonsense and a back that felt worse than when I went in. Avoid at all costs!
