The "Mother of all Supermarkets" in Toronto, this humongous store is conviently stocked with abundant groceries, as well as specialty food shops (bakery, cheese shop, bake shop, and sushi bar). Built on the former arena where the Toronto Maple Leafs played their home games pre-1980, the use of the former space (now a historic landmark) is impressive. With plenty of check-outs, reliable staff and a LCBO and Joe Fresh apparel shop (surprisingly owned by Loblaws), it's a great place to stock up on favorites for anyone residing or visiting the area. While prices are a bit high, the presence of the store has stolen a lot of business from the neighboring Metro supermarket located down the street in College Park.
Trivia: The Maple Leaf Gardens (site of the supermarket) is the first venue Elvis Presley performed for the first time outside the United States. Madonna performed live here in 1984 during her "Like a Virgin" tour.
