| - My wife and I recently moved to "The Valley" (May 2014) from Nebraska. We have been looking for a place that could compete with a store like Scheels and while Sport Chalet will NEVER be able to meet those expectations, it comes really close. Considering that it is only a one or two season snow (they don't have to stock winter clothing or other materials) they have what you need. If the zombie apocalypse happens, this will be my second stop. They have a wide range of stuff to buy from cheap, less cheap, and not cheap so there is something for everyone. The guy who helped me buy my hiking shoes was knowledgeable enough for the average person to make a well informed purchase. If you are serious hiker or climber, you can come here to buy your stuff but don't expect someone to know everything about every item you're buying. Beginners should consider buying all of their rope and other gear somewhere else first, then come here to supplement their kits later on once they know what they are buying. Now, that is my opinion from only being there one time. The SCUBA people knew what they were doing so maybe the climbing folks there today were just the "B" team on a Sunday. I bet there is at least one person who is an expert on everything there that would be an "A" team member.
So in short, great place, great prices, GREAT selection. The staff were all very friendly and knew enough to make sure that you don't buy something you don't need and whatever you buy, you will know how to use.
