  • I was sent a flowering plant for my birthday from this florist. The purchaser had gone through an online flower company . She asked for a different flowering plant, but when the online company contacted Carmel Florist, Carmel told them they did not have the requested plant. They indicated they could substitute with another flowering plant. Apparently the online company agreed and gave the order before first notifying the purchaser for consent. When the plant arrived at my doorstep, it not only was not what the purchaser ordered but was not in good condition, IMHO. While it looked okay from the front, upon further inspection I saw that many of the blooms were droopy and several of the leaves were damaged toward the back. Also the plant was in a straw planter pot which was different than the type shown on the website and not very nice IMHO. There were no instructions on how to care for the plant. I texted the purchaser pics of the plant shortly after arrival and she WAS NOT PLEASED. Since the plant was different than ordered, the sender had no idea what it was. I had to contact Carmel to get the name and care instructions for the plant. I also indicated that the leaves and blooms were droopy and damaged at that time. They gave care instructions but did not offer a replacement. Within minutes of receiving my text, the sender decided to contact the online flower company. The company called Carmel Florist informing them of the complaint; The manager from Carmel called and said the flowering plants are all inspected and there was no damage on them when they leave the store. I said, I beg to differ and described the damage. She said they were canceling the order and sending someone out to retrieve the plant. When that person arrived, I showed them the damage and she said okay, and took the plant back. I didn't care that it was a different plant than intended, I just wanted a nice plant. Also, I didn't want the sender to pay for an inferior product. I was surprised that a comparable replacement plant was not offered by Carmel. Florist. However, the online company did apologize to the sender and is sending a replacement from a different florist.
