| - I'm always looking for a good Italian restaurant because I swear my obsession with Olive Oil and Bread has to come from genetics. Luckily Papavero isn't a good restaurant, it's a great one. Cozy from the minute my wife and I walked in on a blustery Wednesday night, they had great relaxing music playing and nice wooden tables by the window to watch the passing scenes.
Our server was very friendly and conversational, and had just the right amount of attentiveness to keep us satisfied. We ordered some wine and the three cheese formaggi to start things off which along with the bread basket was a nice appetizer for the two of us. The wine I had was a 2014 red vintage from Sicily which was a perfect medium taste to go along with the samplers.
For our meals we had the N'duja and the Norcina, both excellent pasta dishes in their own way. The N'duja is a bed of pasta noodles with a smoky, spicy, elevate the senses marinara sauce, and was something I would absolutely order again in the future. I like how it gives you a mix of flavors as you're eating it, bringing out the sausage, garlic, and pepper flavors well. My wife's Norcina was similarly delicious, being a buttery truffle pasta with a nice creamy taste. Both dishes looked average to small in size but were deceivingly filling.
The best part of the night was easily the fried bread. A salty treat to be sure, but one that lingers on the tongue with that addictive set of properties that makes you ask for the second basket.
Prices are high and menu descriptions overwhelming, but that's par for the course with fine dining downtown.
It's good. real good. Hope it starts your next date night off as awesome as it did ours
