| - I found Duluth Trading Company on the internet several years ago while searching for a source to purchase reflective safety vests. I ended making a purchase at that time then began receiving their mail order catalogs in my mailbox regularly. After about a year of receiving these mailings I finally decided to place another order through their website.
Duluth Trading features a line of exclusive work clothes made exclusively of their fire hose material. I was kind of skeptical at first having read their description of how comfortable and durable these products were, but having regularly worn their fire hose work pants I can honestly say that these are definitely the toughest, most durable pants I've ever worn. They're darn comfortable too. The fabric repels water and any stain that has ever collected on them washes out easily in the laundry.
One of my side jobs consists of setting up road race courses on city streets throughout the San Francisco Bay Area. While on the job I usually sit on the tail of a pick up truck or a flat bed truck and drop or pick up orange traffic safety cones, delineators and/or road closure signage. Often I find myself having to jump on and off moving vehicles as the job requires. As you can imagine my jeans need to be pretty durable, and I've certainly ripped more than my share of jeans or cargo pants by doing that, but I've yet to experience any rippage in any of my fire hose work pants.
Two summers ago I flew off the back of a cargo van while on the job. The knee area on the portion of my Levi's jeans completely disintegrated as I tore a chunk off of my knee. Yes, it was as painful as I described it, but I truly think thicker jeans might have reduced the severity of the injury. Coincidentally, I flew off the back of a pick up truck earlier this year when my driver took off before I had properly secured myself. The impact felt the same, but the incident didn't leave a single blemish on my fire hose pants, and with the exception of a ripped jacket sleeve I was able to continue working.
Right after that event I went online to purchase several more pairs of the toughest pants I've ever used. Each pair of pants has eleven pockets also which means I don't have to hang separate sheaths on my belt for my leatherman, my buck knife, my wire cutters, my pliers, my cell phone and my walkie talkie. There are more than enough pockets for all of those tools.
Lately I've been purchasing lots of their DTPro line of work gloves too. These are very similar to the Ironclad brand of work gloves that I used to purchase with extra lining on the palms and the fingertips, a good snug fit with velcro closures that wrap tight around the wrists. I like that second skin feeling I got with those gloves. Duluth's line of work gloves are very similar, but they cost a lot less and when I buy three or more I can enjoy an even more substantial discount. I just purchased a pair of Duluth's waterproof work gloves that still cost less than the non-waterproof Ironclads found at my local hardware store. I'm looking forward to no more cold, wet hands while on the job.
I love Duluth Trading Company. Check them out on the internet. In addition to their tough and comfortable work clothes they carry regular apparel and accessories for men and women, unique tools and gifts and old-fashioned toys. Their funniest product is probably their Anti Monkey Butt Powder. I'll let you find out what that is on your own.
