  • Wow, you just don't find places like this anymore. I got a haircut and a shave. I've had a million haircuts in my life (obviously) but this was my first barber shave. Now, you should know that I've spent about 3 years quietly lamenting the fact that you can't find barbers anymore. Almost every place you go has "stylists" trained to perm, color, and style hair, mostly for women. That's all well and good, and I don't want to rip those people. They have a job and I'm sure many do it well. The problem I have is that unless I want a perm, they aren't the guy for me. It's like asking the man who fixes your furnace to fix your car. Sure, he knows the tools and probably knows a thing or two about a car, but when you want a job done near perfectly, you need to go to the right person. Two guys, who still have that Italian immigrant feel, run this shop which is about as OLD SCHOOL as you can get. A real man's place, and that's what men need to get a good man's haircut. . . a man's place. The atmosphere is great. They have the Italian music playing, newspapers all over the place to read, all of the old school style tools and whatnot, and even those classic barber shop chairs and sinks. It's great. It's also not the most well kept place (they need to fix it up a bit) but, honestly, who cares. It is pretty clean. Their names are Joe and Naz and they take good care of you. They chat you up, make you feel welcome, help you to decide what you need, etc. It's also obvious that they genuinely value their customers. For their oldest customers, they give hugs. For the new one's (like me), a firm handshake. That said something to me. But at least three different people came in the door while I was in the chair who seemed like they were seeing two old friends. They asked about kids and grandkids, one guy brought vegetables from his garden, and shot the breeze about sports, politics, etc. The regulars seem to love the place. Now the quality of what I got was excellent. It was, honestly, the best haircut I've had in years. I look like I looked 7 years ago. They cut my hair in a way that even made it seem like I had more hair than I do. I couldn't be more happy with it. The shave wasn't the closest I ever had (razor technology has come a long way from the old-school days) but was just fine. The best part about it was that Joe gave me the hot towel treatment and applied all those creams and treatments that no one but guys like this have any clue about. No joke, I felt better after the shave and looked great. The price was higher than your $8 buzz cut place, but the value far outweighs the cost. Men, listen to me. Places like this are dying and that's a shame. If we're not careful, guys like Joe and Naz aren't going to be around for much longer and we'll be having our hair "styled" in a salon chatting about our perms and what color we should get. Let's make sure that doesn't happen. Couldn't recommend this place more strongly!
