  • I will start off this review by saying I am the most decisive and least Bridezilla person that I know, so take this review with a grain of salt. Initially I was planning on going very non traditional with my wedding dress. I had no desire to do the whole "say yes to the dress" schtick and wanted to just buy a dress online and get it over with. However, my mom (myself being her first child getting married) was really excited about the whole thing and convinced me to go to David's Bridal with her just to try a few things on and get a feel for styles. I agreed to it reluctantly and made an appointment to try on a few. When we stopped in, we were greeted immediately and given free reign over the floor to choose what we wanted. I will say this was a little daunting as I had NO idea what I was looking for and am not the patient sort of person to sort through rack after rack of plastic coated pieces of fabric. Still, I chose a few that I thought would suit me and after giving the stylist a few very basic ideas of what I was looking for, she chose a few for me as well. I ended up trying on a total of 4 dresses and fell in love with the third one, which was not one that I had chosen. I was thankful that I had remained open minded and ended up finding that the style I originally had in mind didn't suit me at all. Instead I chose a simple, elegant mermaid style dress with a lace cap sleeves. It was everything I wanted in a wedding dress and the price was right (less than $500). Unfortunately the size I tried on in store was too big for me and they didn't have the next size down. I was really disappointed when they told me in order to try on the next size down I would have to order and pay for it to be delivered to the store, which I personally find utterly ridiculous given that it's a pretty average size and this is a large, frequently visited bridal shop. Had I decided against the dress, I'm sure they could still sell the dress to another customer. Still I didn't feel like going out and trying on more dresses and honestly loved the one I found, so in the end I did purchase the dress online, used a coupon code for a small discount and got free shipping. The next time I came in for a fitting, they completely messed up my appointment and thought I was a bridesmaid coming in, which was weird because I was very detailed on the phone. One downside to buying the dress online is that it comes in a bag and isn't pressed, so you get really large creases in the dress. Also, they won't let you leave the dress until it's actually being sewn, so you have to carry it back and forth from home to the bridal shop. These are things I wish I would have known beforehand, but it was manageable. When I actually came in for my fitting, I was paired with Tara, who alters all the dresses in house. Can I just give a huge shout out to Tara, who is extremely professional yet laid back and easy to talk to. I loved working with her and she seemed to really understand my aesthetic. Given that the dress was a mermaid style, it really needed to be altered very close to the body with great precision. She walked me through every single part of the alteration and what each piece would cost and gave me the option to consent before she did any work on the dress. I really appreciated how thorough and careful she was with the process. She was even able to complete the dress within a short time frame as I had travel plans for the holidays. When I came back for my final try-on, I was ridiculously happy with how it turned out. It was everything I hoped it would be and it fit absolutely perfectly to my body. Tara walked me through how to sit, how to walk and how to use the bustle, which were extra steps she took that really made me feel comfortable. I appreciated everyone I worked with at David's Bridal, and although I had a few criticisms for the overall process, in the end I was really happy with my dress and can't wait to wear it on my wedding date.
