In the downtown heart of "Old Las Vegas" is the Golden Nugget. I spent two days here for a business trip and had a pretty good experience.
The room rate was a crazy $49 a night- yup, just $49. Not sure if that was an off-peak kind of deal, but that was the rate. I did have to add on a $50 "resort fee" which is standard but gave me no added value. Oh well..its Vegas.
My room was very large with two easy chairs and two tables. Nice big flat-screen with plenty of channels. You get two bottles of water in your room every day.
The room had easy to use WIFI that was free. There was no fridge and no coffee maker. I guess they want you to head down to the two nearby Starbucks.
The bathroom was larger than what I see in some big chains. The shower was good with plenty of pressure and temperature.
The lobby was glitzy and the casino is what you'd expect.
Lobby service was efficient, they made short shrift of the big line, and because my room wasn't quite ready, I checked my bags and they called me as promised about a half hour later, while I was having lunch at Binion's Deli.
I loved the location, about a 90 second walk to the amazing Fremont Experience.
