| - I had some errands to run in Steelyard today and it just so happened that I also was in dire need of new back tires and an oil change.
So, I figured, "why the hell not," and dropped my car off at Walmart's Tire & Lube center. This experience was actually not the worst I've received, surprisingly. I think the nicest and most efficient folks they employ here at the Steelyard location are in this car service area.
The gal who helped me was really nice, talkative and polite--but that's where the good service ends for me....
First: It took two hours to change my oil and replace two tires. It took Affordable Muffler 2 hours to replace my whole damn catalytic converter. Maybe it's just me, but if Lube Stop can change your oil in under 10 minutes, it shouldn't take anyone 2 hours to do that and throw one two back tires. But, then again I don't fix cars, so what do I know.
Second: I asked for just the bare minimum as far as tires go. Yes, I know I'm a cheap ass, but I'm just not spending a ton on this car right now. Anyways, they didn't have their cheapest tires, so they put on the next level of tire up for me. Cool--but they charged me more for these tires. Not cool. If you're a TIRE STORE and you're out of stock, I shouldn't have to pay a higher price for your more expensive tires. Period. It's your job to have those in stock and if you don't, I should be charged the same, lesser amount for the more expensive tire.
Overall, if you're in a pinch, they'll get the job done. Just don't expect super cheap prices like you'd assume. They'll try to upsell you by telling you they're out of the cheaper tires. $230 for two back tires and an oil change is way more than I would have spent elsewhere.
