  • A cute coffee shop in Gibsonia? My, have times changed. My other half and I spent a pleasant few hours here one recent weekday morning. We were overwhelmed by their overwhelming menu. Any flavor, they've got it. Any variety, they've got it. Any option, they can do it. Problem is, with so many choices, and so many chalkboards to read, it all got a little fuzzy for us--like too much background noise. I asked the barista if they have a signature drink. She said no, as did her co-worker. I asked if there was something that was most popular, and they both kinds said there isn't really, but that flavored lattes in general are most popular, but not a specific flavor. I asked what her favorite was, and she said the Bourbon-Caramel-Vanilla cold brew coffee. So I said I would get that. I don't usually just order what a barista said, but I'm in a phase of experimentation so I gave it a whirl. We wanted a hot drink so we got a latte with peanut butter flavor. The latte was solid, and pretty good, but the iced coffee was too sweet for our tastes. What we learned from this experience is that if we are going to get a flavor shot, for us, it's best to get a single flavor, or else it gets too sweet. You could tell the coffee was quality and well-prepared, but by no means artisan, which we weren't expecting anyway. We think that the experience would be greatly improved by figuring out a way to declutter the chalkboards, perhaps by streamlining them in some way and/or by creating a few signature drinks, and highlighting them. But we could tell from articles, that the owners thrive on variety, so perhaps this works well for them. It's just that it's the first independent coffee shop I;ve visited that I felt had too many choices. When we arrived, there were several individuals and small groups sitting at most of the cafe tables. It was so amusing to me that people in business attire were having a business meeting! This is so not what this area was like when I was growing up! Anyway, there are high counters in the window, and we spread out there. No additional to-stay customers came in (lots of to-go orders) so we had plenty of space and peace and quiet. And excellent internet. There are not many places to "go" in this area, so Churn is a positive addition.
