  • We adopted our beautiful kitty from here, she was an old girl when we adopted her, but my husband and I knew she was our cat as soon as we saw her (we looked at cats for 2 days straight here). We have had our kitty for almost 4 years now and love her to bits. This branch of the Toronto Humane Society is really nice, I can only comment about the cat section since we never went to the dog section since we couldn't get a dog due to the size of our apartment. They have a lot of cats here ranging from kittens to senior cats. When we were looking for our cat we spent 4 hours on the first day checking out all the cats on one side and the next day all the cats on the other side. The cats all seem clean, and the staff labels the cages with the cat's name and their characteristics, for eg they will say if a cat has a certain disease like FIV so you know what you are getting into if you want this cat, and they also have bonded pairs together and the cards have memos to tell you that you must adopt both cats. I really appreciated the fact that the staff allowed us to wander and take our time checking out all the animals, and did not bother us but was available if we had questions. I did not feel pressure to adopt any animals until I was absolutely sure. The adoption process was pleasant, we had our IDs and filled out several forms, and made a donation. The staff also told us our cat's idiosyncrasies, what she likes and how to take care of her. For eg. we were told that our cat does not like other cats, hence by adopting her, we can not adopt another cat, I appreciate that they knew so much about each cat and told us everything up front before we adopted, and all the tips to keep our cat happy and trained. We also got a couple of months of pet insurance for free. All pets gets free pet insurance and a clean bill of health when they are initially adopted. Overall, I would gladly return to adopt another pet when I am ready to adopt another one. For now, thank you for my Josie, she brings so much joy to my husband and my life.
