| - I can't even begin to tell you how TRULY underwhelming this was, and for the price you pay for it, you're probably better off loading up on junk at the Whole Foods salad bar.
The folks who run True Food (and a handful of other non-related "concept" restaurants) are the kind of people I have a hard time taking seriously. If you believe so much in a product or a concept, I expect it to shine through your food and service. Instead, this was a streamlined operation with a perma-stoned spacey staff and the results were abysmal.
It's a shame that such a beautifully converted space (I can't believe this was that old Coffee Plantation) houses such mediocrity. I started my meal with the Tuscan kale salad. At first, I was very excited for this because it had been well over a year since I had seen any place in Arizona eve serve kale. The salad was simple- served with lemon juice, Parmesan, and bread crumbs, yet the lemon was so overpowering, it made the entire salad entirely too sour and bitter. The sea bass street tacos were a joke. Entirely overcooked and tasted way too fishy. Even the salsa and pickled onions couldn't mask the fishiness of this dish. The wild ahi sliders were fair-- perfectly seared, but lacked any depth of flavor. Thankfully, those didn't taste like it had been sitting out too long. We also got the sweet potato hash on the side...which was burnt on the bottom and tasted of smoke all the way through...I don't quite think they were meant to be that way though. Got conned into ordering two juice infusion type things...not memorable at all. Opted out of dessert for all the obvious reasons.
The waitress bugged me so much. I don't know what hippie food co-op they dragged her out of, but if you're going to be a good waitress you probably should a) forget that you have tables and b) not look disgusted when your non-vegetarian customers order meat. The look on her face was more insulting to me than the meal itself, which is why I brought it down to two stars.
Care about selling customers your "concept" of quality, healthy foods?
Then SERVE quality, healthy foods.
