| - I previously wrote a review at the old location, so I guess it's time to update it!
Jersey Boys is BY FAR my favorite show in the city.
The theater is small(ish), which keeps the show intimate, and the performers do a great job. I find it amazing that they are able to find anyone with a voice even remotely similar to Frankie Valli's!
It seems that they may have worked out the kinks of the long line in the lobby and the super long wait for drinks....maybe they are reading Yelp?!
Anyhow, I took my Dad to see the show because I knew he would absolutely love it, and I was more than right. He actually cried, which made my heart so happy! We picked up our tickets about 40 minutes prior to showtime, and it looked as if they were allowing people in to the small lobby (bar) area, rather than making everyone wait in the lobby, so we headed in. Everyone kind of mingled near the bar and there was no line for drinks (surprisingly), so we got a soda and a beer and waited for the doors to open.
The ushers are friendly and it was easy to get to our seats. Surprisingly, it wasn't very crowded, but it was a 5pm show on Saturday. The thing that really bothers me were all of the people showing up LATE. Seriously? You should be in your seats 10-15 minutes prior to showtime and not trying to squeeze by in front of everyone in the dark. Total bummer, but no fault of the show itself.
I thought the new guy playing Frankie did a great job! This is my 2nd time seeing the show, so I knew what to expect, but it still amazes me how many songs the Four Seasons did that I didn't even realize. I have an older sister named "Sherri," after the song, so my parents are both pretty sentimental about this one I guess!
The tickets say that all guests must be over the age of 5 and that it is recommended for people over the age of 12, however I disagree. The title says it all - JERSEY BOYS. It's about wise guys in Jersey. There is foul language and sexual references and I would not suggest taking a 12 (or 5) year old. This should be for adults only due to the content.
Important note: The show is LONG. Like over 2 hours long. There is a short intermission (8 minutes) about 1/2 through. Not really enough time to run to the bathroom or get a drink, but just perfect to stretch your legs for a second. Just be back ON TIME!
