| - Itameshi ("Ita" is short for "Italian" and "meshi" is the Japanese colloquial equivalent for "food") Japanese and Italian food meet in perfect harmony at Trattoria Nakamura-Ya.
We are fortunate to have dined here during their 3 year anniversary celebration on November 6, 2014. To celebrate, they offered half-off deals on their most popular dishes and the chef also created a few special menu items specifically for their anniversary.
Of course we already knew what we wanted to try...their wildly famous, yet typically expensive, pasta dishes!
Linguini Uni Tomato Cream $26.95 (anniversary price: $13.50) - The plentiful, meaty uni danced in ribbons of linguini. The pasta was cooked al dente and the flavor of the tomato cream sauce was spot on; it really complimented the delicate flavor and creaminess of the uni. You probably didn't know this, but I'll let you in on a little secret about me, I'm actually not too crazy about uni, but thanks to this pasta of my dreams, it really opened up my eyes to the tastiness that is uni. I have absolutely no complaints other than why haven't I tried them sooner!? Flavor rating: 5/5
Spaghetti "Ikasumi" Squid Ink $19.95 (anniversary price: $10) - I was very impressed with how much garlic flavor I picked up with each bite. The chef used just the right amount of the squid ink to allow the flavor to develop into the spaghetti. The squid ink had a lot of depth to it; it also had subtle notes of the sea which was mellow and lovely. The dark black pasta turned our lips and teeth black so just be mindful of that when you are slurping away (It's rather adorable if you ask me) Flavor rating: 5/5
Green Mussels Escargot 3 Ways $8.50 - 2 of each: Sweet miso, parsley garlic butter and mentaiko. The mussels were prepared with a lot of care and cooked just right. My personal favorite was the parsley garlic butter, the sweet miso presented a unique twist, the mentaiko was interesting and also my date's favorite. Flavor rating: 4/5
Now I know why their popular pasta dishes run so steep; it's because they don't cut corners on flavor or ingredients. Their anniversary celebration offered such a great deal we really didn't want to pass it up, but deal or no deal this restaurant is insanely delicious!!! They really outdid themselves in quality, taste, and service. I am absolutely in love and can't wait to come back to savor their luxurious pastas and maybe even try something new!
