I like the place well enough, but I'm hard pressed to give a higher rating based on my bakery tastes. I found the croissants a bit overdone and denser than I prefer. I thought the blueberry tarts to be a bit moist and heavy. To my taste, the scones were too dense and didn't have a decent crumble. The flavors had a good balance, but the execution was what I found lacking. This is especially problematic when they charge as much as they do. This, coupled with the fact they are only open two days a week, make me not such a fan.
I arrrived in the afternoon and found most of the croissants bought up by a single person. Okay, timing could have been better on my part. So, I bought the chocalte filled croissants. The layering was rather dense, thought the chocolate was fine. The young lady that helped me gave me very good service. I do appreciate the interaction being so high, even if the product was just average. She definitely helped me feel okay with a three rating. And may just be the reason I may go back. Perhaps they had a bad bake and it was an off day. I do have five days to think about it.
I think I really just want to like it more than I actually do. I like supporting mom and pop shops, but you need to work with me a little more if you want my loyalty and patronage.
