| - Lizardville is the unique-brew carrying, slightly higher priced, Bourbon drinking cousin to the Winking Lizard. The atmosphere is similar to that of a country store with a slight mix of retro 50s bar. The ville has an awesome summer patio with small tables and a comfortable/cozy bar outside. The restaurant has a regular, slightly retro bar with a jukebox. A few bar tables are scattered around the bar. Hiding in the back corner, is a small little seating area with a few comfy chairs and tables.
The front of the restaurant has a beer selection that will put even some of the best bars in town and grocery stores to shame. They have a small selection of individual beers that are pre-refrigerated. Lizardville can chill your beer in 7 minutes, if you decide to get one off their non-chilled "GREAT WALL OF BEER."
The beers are rated from light 2= pilsner-like to high 20s= meads/darks, with ciders at the end of the scale. Rejoice my gluten free friends- you have a good selection of ciders! Additionally, the store offers random specials on beers- ie Kentucky Bourbon Ale when I was last there! Despite a vast array of beers that would even satisfy the palette of any beer connoisseur; don't expect them to carry the typical brew offerings (budweiser/bud light/etc) They also offer a large selection of foreign beers- last time I was there, it was Hungarian?.. Something unique to Lizardville is their large selection of whiskey, at 10-15 page menu on the differing whiskeys. They also offer whiskey flights so you can sample a few and to those new to whiskey, they offer a grid/chart depicting the varying flavor profiles, ages, etc..
I sat in the small seating area in the back near the kitchen like a hiding gem in the corner. The menu serves up a typical limited offering of bar food, which was every so slightly disappointing. Don't get me wrong, the food is delicious, but limited options. Many of the offerings are typical bar foods- sandwiches and burgers; I am more excited by their specials, appetizers, and flatbreads though!
The sausage and cheese board was positively delicious with the right pairing of cheeses and fried sausage. The apple/grape/cheese/sausage pairings are divine! I could eat 3 full-sized boards. We also tried their shrimp potstickers, which left something to be desired. The potsticker sauce is delicious though!
The beer cheese fries mmm... The beer cheese fries are provide a fried delicious note to your palette. The fries aren't remarkable on their own, just a little seasoning salt/cajun spices. But, the cheese puts it over the top: thick and gooey cheesy goodness. It has the right about of beer flavor and gooey cheese, all on top of a small bed of scallions and bacon. Yay for delicious bar food!
Our waitress was attentive and helpful and in providing suggestions. I wish they offered pairing suggestions from their enormous beer selection to go with the food.
The prices are slightly high, but def. worth an experience. Get the sausage and cheese platter- you won't be sorry!
FYI Parents: They typically only allow 21+ into the bar/store; no children.
