| - Awesome new bar/restaurant, filling the need for a local neighborhood upscale establishment (Its not overly Irish- more of a classy pub with a dabbling of Irish menu items, your bar favorites like wings and things are on the menu too). Great atmosphere, fun staff, makes you feel like youre hanging out at your friends house.
There are already tons of things that is great about this place, and they're only partially open:
-The staff. The owner is a great guy but also a serious business man that knows what he's doing. The bar staff is super friendly, you feel like family being there. Definately not snobby like a lot of the other local service people.
-The building rennovation. The place looks great, clean, and is huge, with a sizeable granite bar (its super deep so theres room for your food and beverages, with probably 15 stools) a large dining area, tons of TVs everywhere, pool table area, darts area, patio with giant tv screen, and even some couches tucked back near the dart boards.
-The menu. So far, huge portions. I haven't tried everything, and they are still working with a limited menu, but the choices are fresh and unique. Im excited to try more.
-Consistancy. When you go out on Wednesday night at 10pm after dinner, they'll be open. Their hours arent "11am-??" (except sundays for now, that is actually "noon-?") so you can go without wondering if it will be closed by the time you get there, or feeling like you're wrecking the staffs night by coming in "late" because they want to go home. They'll be open anyways.
-Location. Next to the Cook house and Unleashed, the north side of Catawba needed something other than the Rusty Rudder for bar/restaurant options. And aside from the Galaway Hooker (which is overly traditional irish, not what id call a pub anyways) there arent any other 'irish type pubs' around.
-The mascott. Paddy is a very cute golden retriever (check out their facebook). No...she doesn't get to go to the bar though.
The only thing missing is a Big Buck Hunter game!
EDIT (3/8/12): PPH now has Big Buck Hunter (yes!!), free popcorn (double yes!!), and delicious crab cakes. I also really like the free appetizer buffet on Fridays for happy hour...best bbq meatballs ever. Salads and shepards pie have also made the menu. Every salad is enormous, I get the dressing on the side because there's more than enough for lunch tomorrow too.
