| - After driving by this new project, The Orchard, for a year, I finally checked it out with a friend. It was the second weekend since its opening and the new-ness was evident. The grounds are gorgeous: Lots of outdoor seating, grassy area, misters, and a fun family ambiance. Pomelo, one restaurant in the Orchard development, was packed at 5:30 pm on a Friday. It has a dining room, bar, "blue" room, patios, and a private cellar that I didn't see. We sat in the blue room which is sort of a bar area where all servers take care of all customers. There are couches, tables, and a cool giant brass light fixture. Unfortunately the service was really slow and we had to ask for service 2-3 times. They were out of a wine we wanted, an appetizer, and an entree. It was 6 PM on Friday, so chalk that up to poor planning/ordering. They served the wrong wine once, but then didn't charge us for the mistake. We had the meat & cheese tray which was delicious. A Caesar salad and the halibut for dinner were both tasty. I thought the food menu was a little small-I would like to see more items. We weren't offered a drink menu, so I don't know if that exists. But the wine list was good with adequate variety and price range. Pomelo has great potential, they just need to better train their waitstaff and do a better job with inventory. I hope to raise my rating once Pomelo irons out the kinks.
