I took my 6-year-old in yesterday because she was complaining of throat pain and had a high temperature. We got in to the room fairly quickly and the nurse assistance swabbed her throat. A few minutes later the PA came in (who wasn't very friendly at all and didn't seem too happy to be working) and examined her for a minute or so. He didn't give any specific diagnosis and said "Well we'll treat her for her symptoms" and walked out of the room. He never told me she tested positive for strep, I had to call the receptionist later that evening and ask. I asked if we were finished and he said "Yeah, we're sending your prescription over electronically right now." I killed 20 minutes then went to the pharmacy; they hadn't even received the sript. We finally got the 5 day prescription of Cefdinir an hour later and went home but she had high fevers all evening even after Tylenol and ibuprofen. I ended up calling her primary doctor's phone line and they advised that the 5 day prescription she received would not be sufficient to clear up the strep so I'm having to take her in to her primary doctor tomorrow for a follow up. I was very disappointed in the PA and his lack of explanation and care. I'll use a different urgent care from now on.
