  • I went to XCYCLE through ClassPass(.com). I was sad to hear they had an all-you-can-bike opening week about two weeks before I went. Wish I had known, I would have moved in! From the time I walked in I felt I was being waited on hand and foot. After class they gave me a cold towel with eucalyptus on it. They have towels already on the bikes and they clean the bikes for you after class. The lockers have a USB PORT in them. A USB PORT. I had never seen a locker with a USB port inside. Their bathroom is the best-smelling bathroom I have ever been in and is better stocked than my bathroom at home. Hair straighteners, blow dryers, feminine needs, RAZORS, all kinds of creams and lotions, showers, shampoo, conditioner, deodorant, you name it, it's probably there. The owner came and introduced herself to me after class. The other owner, I later read in an article, is engaged to Britney Spears' manager. Their RHYTHMX classes are Soul Cycle, which I don't like (I think it's unhealthy, unnecessarily risk-taking, and you may even burn less calories) but I'll go to SC studios and just skip the SC moves (the pushups, the "dancing," the shifting back and forth, and just spin, if everyone is up I'm up, if everyone is down I'm down, and I vary the speed and intensity accordingly. I still get a great workout. XCYCLE has so many classes it's great to be able to go to a 6a spin group class. Thought it was kind of cute that their bikes have little weight holders in the back. By now I can tell from descriptions that a class is going to be SC (my first one at another studio was a ... uh what the heck was THAT?? But it seemed to be a thing so I Googled... and it was...) going in but so far in three studios nobody minds if you go in and skip the SC moves. They do have a non-SC straight spin three times a week (and the third was just recently added). They call it Perform-X. Sadly I can only go four times a month through CP. They have an intro rate of $155/mo, $1550 per year I believe, once you sign up you lock in for life, and I'm pretty sure regular rates are $185, $1850. Like I told them, I can't afford them, but if I had $155 a month for gym fees I'd totally go there! It is truly a boutique gym and a great experience. The instructor was personally and energetic and funny. You know how people try to tell jokes? He actually can. Count me in for my one Perform-X class a week (I still haven't taken it, but I had to come and rave about my first class since it was such an awesome experience). After my first class they gave me a bag, hat, and water bottle for posting a selfie on social media with their name on a background and a check-in. Edit: I now have a favorite, Kat. Her music is awesome. They had a week of one class a day free to introduce her and I jumped at the opportunity. I ended up taking Perform-X but I found I like the RhythmX better. There's nothing necessarily wrong with the instructor, just personal preference.
