| - When my boyfriend and I decided to go down to Mount Lebanon for a day, I looked through my bookmarks and was excited to find an ice cream place for us to visit. It was a hot, sunny Sunday afternoon, and the cold treat was very welcome.
The shop was empty when we entered, but by the time we left it was pretty full. There are tables and bar seats along the window, as well as a couple tables outside. Betsy's has a wide range of menu items, from frozen treats to coffee, hot dogs, and pepperoni rolls. We were there for ice cream, though. The person behind the counter was happy to answer our questions ("What's the Pittsburgh Pride?") and provide samples. After tasting the pear ginger and sage salted almond, I went with one scoop of the latter ($2). My boyfriend ordered two scoops of mango sorbet ($3).
My boyfriend enjoyed his sorbet. I gave it a taste. It was nice and refreshing, but the flavor didn't scream "mango!" at me. Cold, creamy sage, on the other hand, is delicious. The flavor was very prominent without being overpowering, and the ice cream was barely sweet. The almonds sprinkled throughout offered a nice change in texture.
It's unlikely that I'll be around soon, but I would recommend this place in a heartbeat! I wish I could return to try more flavors.
