| - We were so looking forward to our first visit but were so disappointed.
Our table was booked for 7:30, we arrived 20 mins early, our table wasn't ready, which was expected so we went into the bar for cocktails.
First issue, we waited at least 10 minutes to be attended, then almost 15 minutes for our drinks to arrive. At 7:45 we ordered a second drink, at 7:50 it arrived and I asked the waitress to check on when our table was going to be ready, this obviously worked as within 3 minutes we were informed the table was ready. We were escorted to a booth overlooking the valley, but unfortunately the sun had gone down so no sighting of the sunset that we were told was so spectacular.
Second, and most importantly, the food. I ordered the double cut pork chop that was rubbed asian style (hoisin sauce and 5 spice), medium, unfortunately the spice was so overwhelming and the pork chop dry I couldn't eat it. I am a foodie that knows and loves asian flavors well, but this was too much. They offered me another dish, I accepted, the filet mignon, which was good but not exceptional. We ordered a side dish, Brussels sprouts with pork belly, perhaps I missed the rest of the description on the menu but they were in a spicy asian sauce, not a good accompaniment for the filet mignon that my wife ordered.
Third, the attention we received was a little disappointing. The waitress was very knowledgeable, but slightly inattentive and our wait between courses was a minimum 10 minutes. The worst was when we finished our entree and waited to be offered desert, 15 minutes before she turned up, but when she did it was free desert, a bonus, apricot with shortcake, I have to say it was not memorable. Unfortunately there was no offer of any other options or after dinner drinks.
Overall, I will return as I think the atmosphere in the bar was good, I hope the experience was a one off and the next time will be memorable. The setting is spectacular and needs to be backed by spectacular service and food.
