| - I'm unimpressed, and not pleased. The main job of a good bar is to make your day better, especially if it hasn't been a good one. FAIL Hula's, FAIL.
A girlfriend and I went to Hula on Sunday after a ball game around 4pm. We bustled up to the bar, hungry and thirsty, and ready to get some tipsy on. I'd never been to Hula's but my friend had been here several times and said the staff was fun and the food was great.
We were happy to see that happy hour was ON (and hence the 2nd star) but I was a little disappointed that food was not included in HH on Sunday. Frankly, I found the dinner menu prices to be pretty high for sandwiches & burgers. This wasn't some high class joint, and there were 9 gross flies buzzing around the bar and landing on the glassware. My friend was looking on her phone and told me there was a Yelp special for Hula's, so I should check in via text for $5 off my bill. Yay! So with that I felt better about the prices.
Well, when the bartender came to take our order, we tried to make a little conversation but he was very curt, cut us off, and asked if we were ready to order. Seriously? Your bar isn't full, try to be friendly! Anyway, my friend showed her phone and got a COUPON for $5 off her next visit. WTF - that's not what the deal said. Then, when I mentioned to the bartender that I was having trouble checking in with my blackberry to get the $5 off deal, he just shrugged. I tried to show him that the page was just spinning and trying to refresh, but he gave me an obvious, "I could care less" look and turned away. Oh no you didn't!
Look, the Pink Bikini Martini I had wasn't even good (way too much sour, not enough alcohol to be called a martini), so I'll be damned if I'm going to put up with a pissy bartender on top of it. I can drink at home, I can eat a burger at home, so if you're not going to provide nice service, there's really no need for me to be here. BUH-BYE!
My friend told the bartender to cancel her food order because we wanted to go somewhere else. That got his attention and he snapped at us, "so what's the problem here LADIES", but why answer? We left and went elsewhere for great service, food, and drinks.
