  • In my quest to find the "perfect" salon in Charlotte, or at least one I can go to every two months, I unfortunately found another that wasn't the right fit. Here are the pros and cons of Belky's Beauty Salon: Pros: 1.) They're really good at straightening hair. If you like blowouts and bone straight hair, you'll like this place. Personally I like a little more body when I get my hair done, but it still came out pretty. 2.) They offer an extreme deep conditioning treatment with a flat iron. I was fairly skeptical about the method, but I noticed that The Moptop Maven (for those who are familiar with her blog) advocated the practice, so I give it a thumbs up. Cons: 1.) Terrible wait time. I got a deep conditioner, style, and trim and was there for FOUR HOURS! A lot of the time was sitting around waiting for other clients to be serviced. This alone made me not want to go again. 2.) It wasn't a comfortable environment for a couple of reasons. First off the steam machine leaked out all over the back of my shirt so I was pretty cold. Second, there was no water, no magazines, and no TVs. If I'm going to be there for four hours, throw me a bone and give me a beverage and something to entertain myself. 3.) It was a little bit salesy of an environment for me. I felt they were pushing their keratin treatment system and products (which I didn't get) a little too hard. 4.) Too much heat. Some people won't mind this. But the point of me going was to rejuvenate my hair. When I was offered the keratin treatment, I made it clear I was there to do something to HELP my hair and didn't so much care about the style. Overall, I felt like there was an excessive amount of heat placed on my hair in the styling process (and it was really uncomfortable being blowdryed). I could smell it on my hair when I got home, if that gives you any indication of how much has been used. I've been to other stylist who've straightened my hair just as well and did it with less direct heat (and didn't kill my neck in the process.) Overall, it was good for a cute hairstyle. But for a relaxing salon experience and for the health of my hair, it wasn't the right place for me.
