| - The Rock Hall people say that it will take you 4-6 hours to get through the whole thing....I don't know how people go through museums that fast but it took us 4 hours to ALMOST make it through the lower level. We wanted to see the "Women Who Rock" exhibit before closing, so we had to cut the rest of the museum short. For me, it would probably take a good 3 days to make it through the entire museum.
First off, let me say that this place is deceiving, the lower level must go for quite a distance underneath the outside patio in front of the Hall, it's huge!! Now, I love music, especially rock and roll, and the highlight of that floor is the Roots of Rock and Roll section. They have listening posts where you will be treated to some of the most spectacular music you have ever heard in your life.....Ma Rainey, Bessie Smith, Howlin' Wolf, T-Bone Walker, Muddy Waters, Mahalia Jackson, Lead Belly, Woodie Guthrie, Jimmie Rodgers and Robert Johnson to name only a few. I could have probably spent all day listening to every piece of music the Rock Hall had available for them.
The "Women Who Rock" exhibit probably could have been bigger, but considering how many years it took the ladies who pushed for this to get it off the ground, I'm impressed with what they did. Lady Day's fur stole sits alongside Madonna's cone bustier...obviously an exhibit focused on women has to focus on clothing ;o) The pieces the Hall obtained are remarkable and the stories that go with them are even more so. Do yourself a favor ladies, and head to this exhibit to celebrate all the women who carved out a place in Rock history.
