Sure do like this place. It does not look like much from the outside other than maybe a one-time restaurant popular in a long past era. BUT...it is still a popular steak house from the 1950s that has that formal aura that you might have experienced at times eating out with your parents. At least it was with mine.
When you sit down you are served a relish tray and a nice pimento cheese spread with crackers. THAT is really old time that I remember was common in the 1950s, dying out through the 1960s. Always thought the relish tray was a class act.
We are stuck in a beef rut always ordering the filet. The meat is prime quality, at least it looks, tastes and cuts that way and is a treat. Served with a loaded (or not) baked potato and a couple of fried onion rings you have a wonderful meal.
Dimly lighted, large menu, linen topped tables and attentive and personable wait staff that have been working there for years. Certainly a special event kind of restaurant and they do have a separate area for larger parties. Their menu has a lot of other choices, so maybe I will get brave and venture out from the filet...but maybe not?
Their fresh made apple pie is split-able/shareable as you will be full after your meal. Get it with ice cream...why not?
Wine bottles and glasses of wine are half-price on Mondays and Thursdays. Why those days is beyond me other than if you do dine here during the week you might get in without a reservation. But don't count on it, so please reserve ahead. Weekends are really a mob scene, but regardless of crowds, the service and food quality does not falter.
Great place.
