Went to Dr. Tindall with pain in elbow joint. Left owning Dr. Tindall's recommended elbow strap with little info on how to use it, how it works and how to know how tight or loose to have it on my arm - ONLY that it would relieve pain in 3 weeks.
I continued to wear the strap from the time the nurse fitted me and felt hopeful it would relieve the pain. Quite soon though, the pain increased and spread to the area around the joint. At first I endured ("must be a part of the healing") but then I knew something wasn't right. I noticed that when I took it off the pain stopped and when back on it came back.
It was obvious to me that the strap had something to do with the cause of the pain and called Dr. Tindall's nurse regarding returning it and got this response: "Talked to Dr. Tindall. It's been worn. Can't be returned. it couldn't be the strap. Must be something else."
A number of days has passed as i learned more including that I remembered that the nurse Alissa, when fitting me, initially put an extra large on and then took it off because it was "too big" and "extra large". She then put on the next size down, a "large" and which is what I l left with. I realize now that the extra large had the capability to be adjusted and the large on my arm did not. The "large" was too tight; the fit was wrong. I think she was in a hurry at the time and doubted her initial choice of 'extra large'. Without any velcro adjustments that the larger strap provided the maximum looseness on the "large" was too tight (too much pressure) and THIS caused the pain.
$60 loss. Ouch. My lesson? Choose doctors who are not so rushed as to not have time to connect with their patient and to double check the nurse's judgment for proper fit. I believe that if Dr. Tindall wasn't so rushed at the time and came in and checked the fit Alissa made, he would have noticed it was too tight. Not sure what I'm going to do now but wanted to document the information so others might benefit. *Maybe Dr. Tindall would read this and reconsider the loss of his caring for me as a patient is a far greater loss than $20 for the strap.
