| - Meh..... The date change didn't bother/affect me, I get it, things happen, but the 6pm weekday events located downtown are super inconvenient.... placing a bunch of hungry folks fresh from a long day at work who are no doubt rushing around..... in Pittsburgh traffic is just a recipe for disaster.
I was totally excited for this event as I can't think of any other occasion that I would visit Floor 2. But it just goes to show that fancy decor and a menu full of never-heard-of-ingredients does not guarantee a good meal.
The bar area was gorgeous and the paying patrons looked as if they were enjoying themselves. We received two drink tickets and waited at the bar for a few minutes before being waited on. I had absolutely no idea what drinks we were to receive? Often times, there are little cards describing the specials, that would have been helpful as I could not locate these drinks on the menu, either.
I'm not a big sangria fan but I thought it was tasty. My friend said it tasted watered down. I wish the fruit wouldn't have been at the bottom of the ice or else I would have eaten it! The daiquiri was good but nothing special.
Being totally honest -- the chef/GM speeches are usually my least favorite part of these events. They tend to speak too quietly and without much excitement or engagement. The folks last night solidified this. I understand the volume level of the other patrons is out of their control but they just didn't seem to be very excited that we were there. Or just excited about much in general? The GM was the friendliest of the two but that isn't saying much. I did find it interesting that the host staff got to design their own uniforms.
(Also want to note that the speeches at Federal Galley were by far my fave, those folks were engaging and hilarious!! Edited to add: The Commonwealth Press owner was awesomeeeeeee)
As they were speaking to us I realized that our small apps had been sitting at the bar. The GM told us they prepared enough so that we got two of everything. But with items like oxtail and pork???? Ugh. Lots of places serve us crazy meats for these events and I hate it. I am vegan but will still sample certain dishes for the sake of the review and so I can give feedback to my friends. But I'm not going anywhere near ox, pork, duck or the like. The chickpea dish was good though. The leeks really added something special to the flavor but that is my only compliment of the food. The tuna poke was flavor-LESS. How?! Ugh, super disappointing.
These items were not available on the menu, either. I'm not sure the reason behind this? But it makes it difficult to gauge how the other menu items might fare. Although in this case, I doubt I'd go back to even try anyway.
If one thing had been better, like the taste of the food, or the vibe of the atmosphere then this event wouldn't have been so bad. No such luck this time though.
