  • I can only speak to my experience with the parts and service departments. If you're looking to have a unique experience at a car dealership, one where they actually care, want to help you, and won't treat you like you're one of those fools that's born every minute, go somewhere else! I've been going to Honda West Since 2014 because my key to my Civic keeps breaking. Back Story: I bought my 2008 in 2010 (elsewhere), used (obvi), and didn't have a problem with the key for the first four years, then one day the plastic sort of broke. I headed to Honda West to get a new one cut. Since the remote is transferable this only costs $35. The first time they cut a new key for me was uneventful other than the person in parts who cut my key accused me of being really hard on the key and that they weren't sure what I might've done to the key to make that happen, but that I must've inflicted extreme impact on the key. I told them that wasn't the case and thanked them for my key. After that, I ended up returning to Honda West just two or three months later due to the new key breaking. When I talked to the guy in parts he was very condescending, explaining to me that they would need the registration because he needed the VIN number, then he went on to explain what a VIN number was... Um, I'm in my mid-thirties, I know I'm a woman (please sense my sarcasm), but I also know WTF a VIN number is! I paid $35 again for another new key. I continued to return every two to four months to get another key as they kept breaking. It was extremely frustrating and I would try to evaluate what I was doing and trying to figure out ways to make the keys last longer. One thing I noticed was that the key would almost always get cracks splaying out from the screw. The next time I got a new key I watched as the parts guy screwed the key in extremely tight. Two to three months later I was back again with a broken key. I mentioned to the parts person that I felt like it wasn't necessary to tighten the screw so hard and that I felt like that was contributing to the stress on the plastic. They did a warranty replacement which I appreciate them doing, but this was on like on the sixth key, I was over $200 in! Since then I've returned once for a broken key and to get a spare re-cut today when I lost my main key. So, basically, I was having to replace my key so often because they were tightening the screw too tight. Every time I would go in they would make comments about how I must've done something terrible to the key to make that happen, and once in a while, I'd get the condescending explanations. Today I went in and Jesus helped me, he was awesome! He didn't accuse me of violence toward my car key, since I hadn't worked with him before I explained the issue with screwing in the screw too tight, he made sure that he didn't use too much force when screwing the key together, and he didn't feel any urge to mansplain anything to me! He was polite and professional. Jesus also told me that he needed the VIN number because they were supposed to look up any recalls my car might have. I was already aware of one and made an appointment to have it fixed. He mentioned there was one for a split visor and that it had been available since 2011. My car visor split shortly after bought the car (in 2010) and while I continued to use it, eventually it fell apart. Once it was in so many pieces that might hurt someone I finally threw it away. As an only parent, I haven't had the funds to replace it, plus I spend all my extra money on keys! I was so excited that I might finally get a new visor in sunny Las Vegas, and thanked Jesus for looking it up for me. Then I went to the service department to make sure this would be included in my appointment. Service looked it up for me and said that I would've needed to claim this recall in 2015 or earlier. I was very frustrated at this point, if these other parts people would've spent the time I was there doing what Jesus did, and looked up my VIN for recalls, I could've had a new visor for years now, but since they were too busy lecturing and mansplaing things to me, now I'm going to have to pay to replace this defective piece of equipment in addition to the hundreds I've paid for keys. I'm definitely looking for different options as far as places to get my keys replaced and get the recall (which is an airbag issue) repaired. I'm not sure what I was thinking going back there so many times. If you do go there, have Jesus help you!
