| - After the heavy foods of Thanksgiving, I decided I needed something with less meat and more vegetables. Enter Kabul and its Tunisian Spinach Stew.
We walked up the stairs and were immediately in the usual Afghan restaurant decor: soft red lighting. I don't know why exactly this is, but every Afghan restaurant I've ever been in has this exact same affection for a lot of lush red everywhere. Kabul was actually pretty toned down in comparison to a few other places I've been with more natural lighting from the windows and bare wood floors. (What, no thick red carpet, red velvet chairs, red velvet curtains, and red light bulbs? Seriously, there's a place like that in Munich.) It made distinguishing what was actually on my plate a lot easier, and I'm glad for that.
Service is way slow here, so prepare to just hang out for a good long while. However, when we finally got our food it was definitely worth it. I loved my Tunisian Spinach Stew. It was flavorful and perfect for a chilly fall/winter day. If you're looking for a place that you can be in and out of within in an hour, this isn't it. This is a place that is going to take some time out of your day, so bring a book or a friend and just enjoy the space and the food.
