| - Some pleasant surprises during a surprise visit today, but not enough to set them apart.
I've avoided going to Le Macaron due to initial lukewarm reception from friends, but I ended up here today anyway. My mom wanted some munchies while shopping at the Galleria mall, and I thought she'd appreciate this place the most out of all the options. It's on the 2nd floor on the JCPenney/Macy's side of the mall, and it's near such notable landmarks as the mall's Starbucks and an elevator.
Her initial selections were the lattice apple pastry ($1.70), the madeleine ($1.80), and the coffee ($2.00). The lattice apple actually had a bit of crispiness on the crust, and the apple flavor was prominent. The madeleine was buttery and light on the inside and also was crispy on the outside. I definitely wouldn't mind eating either of those treats again.
I tasted the hot coffee too, and it was nothing too special. It's just something to accompany the pastries, if you're into that sort of thing. I've started to appreciate cold brews lately, and this doesn't hold a candle to them.
Frankly, those pastries didn't satisfy either of us for the moment, so I went back for more. I should note that there aren't any seats or tables nearby, so we had to walk around to find some benches near the Foot Locker. Out of the roughly 20 available flavors of macarons, I picked out the raspberry and the lavender ($2.40 each). I liked the presentation - they stacked the macarons in a compact plastic sleeve and sealed with a store logo sticker. The stated flavors on both macarons were easily discernible, and the shells' exterior had a crunch, but the interior was far too moist. Also the lavender cream was a bit too sweet and only very subtly lavender-y.
If the store wasn't named Le Macaron, I could justify giving four stars. Since their namesake item wasn't impressive, I am giving only three stars. It's not going to be a destination for me even though I live nearby. It's just a snack option for mall visits or a dessert option to follow the currently dessert-less Gen Korean BBQ, which is an easy stroll away.
