| - Nice Italian restaurant in the Northside that does a decent job with your usual, Italian classics. We ordered a side salad, a kid's spaghetti, lasagna, and a Works pizza.
The side salad was good, but didn't blow us away. Our son, whom we took there to celebrate his 2nd birthday, devoured his spaghetti, so we were happy that we enjoyed his birthday dinner. But the accompanying meatball was probably one of the worst meatballs we've had. My husband thinks that maybe there was too much bread crumbs or whatever they used as filler since you didn't get much meat flavor at all. The lasagna was tasty but also didn't blow me away--good balance of meat, cheese, and sauce, but the sauce was too sweet.
As for the pizza, we thought it was okay. The dough is good, not greasy but flavorful. As for the toppings, the meat and cheese was good, but we also weren't happy that our mushrooms and green peppers were not fresh. It's not hard to get those vegetables fresh, even in Madison during the winter time.
As for service, the wait staff was very friendly. There were two huge parties that filled up more than half of the restaurant but we didn't feel slighted at all. Our waiter also made sure that we got our order in before those parties so that our food came out in a timely manner. That was a very nice touch.
We've had better but we'll come by again if we really have a hankering for inexpensive, regular Italian classics. We would have given this place 2 1/2 stars if it was possible.
