I had my hopes up but it's really just basic. Let's start with appetizers; hardly shareable so you better order a few. The flavor was pretty good on the alligator bites and fried pickles but the batter just crumbles off. The pickles really just feel apart after touching them. ?
I had the blackened chicken from the lunch menu and it was awesome. A good portion for a chicken breast and super juicy. The season was heavy but that is the idea, very good. For sides I went with the Charlston cheese grits and French fries. Grits weren't hot but warm enough to eat. Decent flavor but super stiff. The fries could have used an extra minute in the fryer, flimsy and floppy but again good seasoning.
The reviews about the corn bread are spot on. It's one of those moments you just need to sit someone down and say... just stop. At least serve some real butter while it's "hot" so the dryness can be remedied with the butter... maybe.
Over all the basics need work. Execution is the flaw here since the flavors really are good. We went for lunch and it was super slow so maybe a dinner when things are moving in the kitchen would mean someone was paying attention.
