  • First and foremost... ALWAYS come prepared with plenty of fluids for hydration, some food/snacks for energy, and packaged electrolyte supplements. After parking the car, head to the posted map, and follow the trail. First landmark to see is the "Lake Mead National Recreational Area" sign that lists distance to Colorado River and the Arizona Hot Springs. I found a printed map of the trail here... very helpful! Follow the trail down the White Rock Canyon to the Colorado River to get to the Arizona Hot Springs... along the way, you'll spot some Bighorn Sheep and at the river, you'll see some ducks. DO know that the water in the river is pretty darn COLD! Guess it's nice to off set the heat from the springs. Stop here and take a dip if you please... or follow signage to head towards the springs. Continue the trail along side the river until you hit the beach... hook a left into the trail towards the springs... or if you need the restrooms, follow signage to the portable toilets before heading into the springs. Once in the canyon, follow the running water... this is where water shoes may be needed. DO keep in mind that water may feel cold at first, but it gets warmer and warmer, to HOT, but DON'T worry... it's not scorching hot. And before hitting the springs, DO know that there's a 20 ft. ladder to climb up... but DON'T worry, the ladder is secure. After the ladder, the hot pools are right around the corner. Kick back... and DO enjoy the pools, but DON'T submerge your head for you risk exposure to a hazardous amoeba. Lastly, DO remember to rest & re-fuel... cuz getting to the springs is only halfway... and follow the trails so you DON'T get lost on your way out. Have FUN! Note to self: Bring a spare change of clothes AND water shoes. Note to others: Not advised to hike in the summertime. THINGS OF INTEREST: ***** [White Rock Canyon, Colorado River, 20 ft. ladder (to climb up to springs), Arizona Hot Springs, Bighorn Sheep, Ducks, Lizards.] CONVENIENCE: ***** [Somewhat easy to find. Just pass the O'Callaghan-Tillman Memorial Bridge and LOOK for the Mile Marker 4. Park in the lot.] AMBIANCE: **** [Even with a trail map, the marked trails can be a bit ambiguous.] DIFFICULTY LEVEL: **** [4 out of 5.] PRICE: FREE! [Not including gas cost.] OVERALL: ***** [5-stars! Be prepared for an amazing 5-hour hike... it's definitely a sight worth seeing!] If you want obstacles & rope challenges, DO the Goldstrike Canyon Hot Springs... and if you DON'T... then it's all about the Arizona Hot Springs! Nuff said. [#3 of 100 YELP CHALLENGE 2013]
