I've only been staying at Altera highlands for 3 months in a temporary basis while in transition. I now have to leave due to being transferred for work. I love this place. The staff have been amazing...Priscilla is an absolute delight to work with. Liz, Kaytee and the maintenance staff have all been helpful. Management are fair, reasonable and kind in my experience.
The homes are all currently being renovated and look fantastic post reno. The older units have nice layouts but are old and I don't recommend choosing one of these. Aside from that I can't think of any negatives. The way the homes are set up feels more like having a house. There is a nice 'community feel' that I just don't find with some of the bran new apartment communities in the area. Most units have extra large garages and many have a nice car port like space in front of the garage which you can use to park. Overall the community is quiet and I felt safe here with my 1 year old. We've taken my son on walks at all hours of the day up to 8pm at night and have felt safe. The pool and fitness areas are well maintained and kept clean. The gym is high-tech with bran new equipment and one of the nicest I've seen in any apartment community. There are some stray cats in the area but I haven't had a problem with them.
The location is unbeatable. We are a 5-10 minute walk to Whole Foods, Trader Joes, LA fitness, Fry's food stores, CVS, dozens of other stores and restaurants and a huge park/playground for kids. I will definitely come back here to live if I'm working in this area again in the future.
