| - It's no secret that Novanta is one of my favorite pizza restaurants in Madison, so last Saturday evening when a friend suggested we stop by Novanta's sister restaurant Cafe Porta Alba (or is a parent? or a brother? who really knows...) I was game. We arrived rather late - after nine - and there was no wait. We were seated promptly and served drinks even though not all of our party had yet arrived.
After looking through the menu, I decided to try the Buratta pizza, because, really, there is nothing better than some really good fresh mozzarella. I was expecting it to be as good as my favorite Novanta pizza - and, I have to say...it kind of blew my other favorite out of the water. Both restaurants serve Neapolitan style pizza, but there was something very different (and, honestly, better) about the crust of my pizza at Cafe Porta Alba. It was so soft and delicious and perfectly baked. Often times the crusts on these types of pizza get a little overly brown, but this one was just right. The cheese was phenomenal and the seasoning was spot on.
For dessert, our group had the Pizza alla Nutella, which is pretty much the same (and as amazing) as the one at Novanta, except it's offered with gelato...and honestly...is there ever a time in which gelato made something worse? I think not. The entire meal was incredibly delicious, and the servers were super kind and courteous. Our server split the bill and even split the cost of our dessert pizza without any issue. We were also there pretty late, but we never felt rushed to finish up and leave. My only sadness is that Cafe Porta Alba is in the middle of Hilldale, meaning it's a little difficult to get to (parking, ugh)...though that's probably a good thing or I'd be there every night!
