| - I was sooooo close to giving 5 stars. It really is a pretty great property!! Here's the best parts: underground, covered parking with direct elevator access for Calgary winter storms. Beautiful lobby, complete with business centre, bar, restaurant, Marriott marketplace, seating area, and restaurant. Small workout area (couple treadmills, elliptical, stair master. The pool/hot tub area is actually pretty amazing, complete with a water slide that my kids probably did 40 times each (I did it once and it was actually pretty fun). Location is right beside new plazas including restaurants, movie theatre, hospitals and supermarket. The room was quite nice and extremely well designed. I hate to speak so highly about a 'courtyard' but I have to admit, the property, lobby, elevators, rooms and mostly everything else was extremely well thought out. Kudos to the architects, contractors and designers!!
So why is not 5/5? Here's where it lacked:towels at the pool were the size of hand towels. Upgraded high speed internet only allows for 1 device (pick carefully), room service doesn't exist, you can order food, but don't expect it to be delivered, you have to go downstairs and pick it up yourself. The food was OK, cheese pizza was no good, but the shrimp gyoza was quite excellent. Finally, no lounge or breakfast for Upper tier Marriott members. I don't stay at a lot of courtyard properties so maybe that's par for the course, but I'm used to having breakfast include when I stay at marriotts.
In any event, this is a surprisingly stunning hotel. So close to a 5/5, just falls slightly short on relatively small things.
