| - I recently moved to Scottsdale and was looking for a local mechanic. Very disappointed at this place.
I had live in northwest Phoenix and regularly took my Nissan Titan and Toyota Camry to Big O Tires on 23rd Ave and Bell Rd. Most of the guys there have been great. They do many small jobs at no cost and rarely find any problems. When they do find problems, it's legit. They don't pressure me to fix or buy anything.
When I moved to Scottsdale, I hesitated on taking my vehicles anywhere else but the Big O Tires on Bell Rd. Last weekend, I was running errands in Phoenix and stopped at the Bell Rd location to have an oil change. I ran several errands after that before coming back to Scottsdale. When I got home 6 hours later, I found the plastic inner fender between the engine and right front wheel was shredding. I knew this would eventually happen since the plastic piece was coming apart. Since I was back in Scottsdale I took the Titan to the closest Big O Tire...on Mcdowell and Scottsdale. The guy at the front desk lacked customer service skills while on the phone with a customer. He should be working at McDonald's. After he got off the phone, I explained my situation and asked if they could tie the inner fender down. He went to explain that every big o tires is independently owned and told me to take the vehicle back to the location where I had the oil change. I told him it was not their fault and that I just needed it to be tied down. He went back to talk to a mechanic, came back inside to told me they had 3 cars in front of me and even though it was an easy fix they wouldn't have time to do it since they were closed at 4pm (in 1 hr 15 min). He said they had to put the vehicle up on the lift to do the job. Then he went to eat 10 Big Macs (just kidding). In all seriousness, that guy did not belong in a service shop.
I called the Big o tires in Phoenix and told them the issue. I ended up driving the vehicle back to the Phoenix location, which was 30 miles away. The tech looked at the fender, took a plastic tie, and tied the fender down. Took less than 5 mins and he didn't even lift the truck up. Furthermore, one of the managers who I have only dealt with on one occasion, over 6 months ago, said "thank you" and called me by name! Like we have known each other for so long. I was shocked and impressed.
This incident reconfirmed why I hesitated on taking my vehicle anywhere other than big o tires on Bell Rd and 23rd Ave. I highly recommend THAT location, not the one in Scottsdale. Forget the overeating McDonald's guy on Mcdowell and Scottsdale. Lazy and unhelpful.
