| - Let's face it, most of us in AZ despise Cox for their monopoly and high prices, and for lobbying out Google Fiber. But, what are you gonna do about it?? I had been having connection drops a lot lately with Cox, probably due to construction in my area, but still. It had me disgruntled more so than usual, so when the CenturyLink sales people started combing our neighborhood with their clipboards, they caught me at a vulnerable time. I have friends that have had no problems with their service, but many more that hated it. ALL of my computer related industry friends told me NOOO, stick with Cox...it's the lesser of the evils. I told the salesperson that I'd like to think it over but he let me know that I could only get this special deal if I signed up through him - right f*cking now. He assured me that it was a NO CONTRACT deal, and that I could cancel at any time. I caved, even though I had just recently upgraded my cable modem, knowing that I had a 3 day window in which to cancel the install for whatever reason. I did NOT like the fact that he had to call in to HQ and have my voice recorded, agreeing to the service plan. It seemed really sneaky and lock-you-inny. But, I obliged and we shook hands, & he went on his merry way. I must say he was a very nice young man and good at his job - sales. This review has nothing to do with him. So, that evening I started looking up reviews on their service. OMG. I read and watched personal videos of the experiences people had with this company. It didn't take long before I was completely turned off and I had my heart set on cancelling the install that was set up for the following week. The next morning (16 hrs later) I called the number on the top of the form that the salesman circled for me, in case I had questions or wanted to cancel. It was an automated answering service that did nothing but play adverts for everything from home security to auto insurance. I was never even given the option to speak to a rep. I just kept pushing # and a new ad would begin. This went on at least 20 times before I hung up, very frustrated. I had to look them up online and call a couple different customer service numbers before I was put on hold for 16 minutes and finally talked to a person. I insisted that my install be cancelled, and of course she asked why. I told her I just changed my mind. She inquired further. Look lady, I'm not obligated to give you a dissertation on my reason for cancellation. I just don't f*cking want it, you have horrible reviews and I was given a bogus phone number to call. There, you satisfied? She assured me the service had been cancelled but couldn't offer a confirmation of some kind. This was a bit disturbing, but I went along with it. I am still nervous about whether it was a legit termination and that I won't get some kind of bullshit cancellation bill in the mail. THAT is bad business. I run a small home business of my own and I assure you that if I ran my business this way, I would be bankrupt in a short time. It really seems they play the bait & switch game on people, and don't let them sucker you in with the "dedicated line" BS. Cable IS faster, period. I then called Cox and complained that I thought my bill was too high & that I was considering going with CenturyLink...and they lowered my monthly bill . Stick with Cox until Google wins, and then GO FIBER!
