| - So I finally decided to try this place last week after noticing it for the first time on Valentine's day. But to my surprise, they've been there since 2014. Now this place is family owned, which I love because everything is made to order and they are so friendly. The owner, Paolo is also very nice. I was gonna give this place a 5 star, but I'll get into detail.
FOOD: 3.5/5
I've only had their tocilog and corned beef. Both came with garlic fried rice and two eggs. Classic filipino breakfast, served all day? What's not to love? I guess a couple things for me was that the tocino was pretty burned and the garlic rice was pretty salty. Also, I like a certain meat to rice ratio and I feel like there's too much meat and not that much rice. But if you're into that, then by all means. To each their own, haha. But all in all, the food wasn't that bad.
PASTRIES: 4.5/5
This place has a bunch of pastries that I still have to try. But their croissant rolls are pretty damn good. They have four choices: mango, guava, cream cheese, and I can't remember the last one. Now if you've ever had Portos in SoCal, then you know how good those cheese rolls are. But if you're itching for a cheese roll fix but you don't wanna commute 4 back to back hours, then Chef Zen is your spot. They make em fresh everyday. Now the only thing for me is that they put sugar on top of the rolls, but you can always request, ahead of time, to make some rolls without the sugar on top. But please order in bulk because I doubt they would make one, two, or a half dozen of the rolls at request, that would probably waste their resources.
So summary, food? It's alright. Pastries? Plenty to choose from so indulge yourself. Live a little.
