  • 3.5 stars One of the original independent coffee spots in Toronto... from my understanding, it probably is considered first wave. To be standing for so long in Toronto AND with the corporate green mermaid literally right beside you, kudos to Crema Coffee. Clearly they're doing it right for everyone in Junction. This cafe has the chill vibe that the original Toronto places have... not a modern and unapproachable take to coffee but rather a homey and warm place to sit and read your paper while sipping on some good coffee. Think updated rustic woods decorating a clean sparse hip place. The spot is housed in an older building but the super high ceilings give it a nice airy feeling. There are not too many large tables... mostly 2 seaters but there is one table that could potentially fit a group of 6. I did see a few plugs for charging along the windowed bar seating so they do encourage you to work here. The barista area is neat and tidy while listing out the usual coffee favourites in addition to their specialties. I got suckered for their specialty of Dulce de Leche... love me a good caramelized flavour coffee. Prices are fair with most sitting between $3 to $5 before any add ons like alternative milks. With our order, the drinks were made quite quickly and we were able to enjoy them at a nearby table. Flat White with Almond Milk - I just had a flat white at Stadt which actually surprised me on how good it was. Crema's version was definitely lighter with a more fruitier notes in the espresso. I felt it was missing the depth & robustness that I'm accustomed to flat whites. It wasn't bad but I felt it was probably closer to a latte than a flat white. 3/5 Dulce de Leche Latte with Almond milk - This threw me a bit... I was expecting the caramel sweetness to be throughout the drink but maybe they didnt mix it but the foam on top had the dulce de leche and maybe the final two sips. This was mostly a regular latte with a hint of sweetness. I don't mind it being minimally sweet (I drink a black each morning) but my expectations was to taste Dulce de Leche throughout. Other than the lack of dulce de leche, I found it a decent balance between milk and espresso. The espresso was fairly light with a bit of a fruity note ... I like it more robust but it's still a good flavour. 3.5/5 Overall, its a nice local spot to grab a coffee. Perhaps we ordered wrong or just had a weird batch of beans. Either way, it's a decent chill spot for those who are looking for some zen with a cup of coffee.
