| - Where do I begin? I have not worked out in almost 2 years, and have really let things go. I did so well in the past with eating well and working out and lost a significant amount of weight a few years ago, only to get into a relationship and rapidly gain most of it back (relationship fat!) You know, the dinners, the cocktails, the snuggle time right after the big dinners and cocktails. Before you know it wham! Fat is back! I accidentally stumbled onto The Ride when I saw a job posting ad that still comes through my email. I thought, let me see what this place is. So the first visit was free what do I have to lose but weight!! The website is easy and the first class and shoe rental are free as well. I am old school so the last Spin class I went to was the old fashioned one where you wore your own sneakers and there was someone there walking around and humiliating you if you didn't have your bike level where they said it should be, the music kinda sucked but you dealt with it. I remember those classes and whereas I loved the results after some consistency I did not enjoy the barbaric instructors.
Breath of fresh air!!! The Ride! The total opposite of the sucky spin class! First, the staff is AMAZING! They were guiding me in on the telephone because I was so lost trying to find the location. The front desk person...super pleasant and upbeat. Not that fake happy but genuinely pleasant and nice. They were all so helpful and accommodating, explaining how to clip your shoes into the bikes. The music was perfect. The class size was perfect. The class bikes are on three tiers to allow everyone to see the instructor. There is fun lighting that makes the room ambiance not so 'gym antiseptic' but like you are having fun! The bikes are far enough apart that you don't have to be concerned with someone bumping you when they get on and/or off. The instructor, Shannon - AWESOME! He was so helpful with me, he introduced himself before the start of the class and made me feel at ease. He didn't single out the slow fat lady (me) in the class which was extremely comforting. His music choice is perfection! The class is only 50 minutes!! 50 minutes. You can do anything in 50 minutes. Think about it, wash dishes, watch a tv show, shower and get ready for a night out on the town - 50 minutes! That part is also one of my favorite aspects.
I survived without the need for paramedics! At the end of the class the staff remembered that I was new and helped me get off of the bike and unclip the fancy shoes. They also passed out cool towels with tea tree oil on them. And one of the best parts is how nice the other bikers were. Not the snooty stuck up professionals at some locations, but they surrounded me and congratulated me for working so hard. They briefly told some of their stories after class and made me feel at home. They instructed me on things like where to discard used towels,etc. I have never felt so welcome and in the right place. This is a must try for everyone. I'm going back for theme nights - Tuesday Diva class and Wednesday Hip Hop class. Yes, you can enjoy Spin again!!
