| - It is a real downfall of the rating system that I am forced to give this company any stars.
I don't even know where to start; so many things went wrong with this company. I purchased the groupon that they offered and they proceeded to make it difficult to use. Their entire point in offering it is to try to force the user to purchase their weekly delivery system. When you try to use the groupon online it has glitches so you're forced to call in and get their hard sales pitch. Sadly, even if you did not have the groupon you would likely have to call in because their product listings and descriptions are so woefully inadequate that you basically are just guessing at what you will get.
Also, they then charge you a deposit on their ice bags and cooler bags that they use to deliver things (they tell you when you are ordering that they are free which is a complete lie). This means that they tie you into a tug of war of that $15+ deposit. You have to call back in and get the hard sales pitch again, then call repeatedly to get your actual refund. I had to call four times over a month. I would call, they would claim to be "putting it through" then a few days would go by, it wouldn't happen... It was a huge hassle. Finally, they did put a deposit through as a refund but it was only for half the amount outstanding. They now claim that because it was a groupon, they don't have to refund the outstanding money that they charged for product that they never delivered and also that they do not have to send the product at all because I declined staying with their service.
And about that product... I figured that I would go for a produce box and it would have some locally grown produce, peak of the season, etc. The customer service person blatantly lied to me and said that it would be a selection of produce, lots of vegetables. I ordered two boxes. What I got was one box filled with fruit and a tiny plastic bag with less than an ounce of mint in it. Not two boxes, only one but charged for two. No vegetables were included, but there was a comically diminutive cantaloupe with a "grown in Mexico" sticker on it. When I called to ask where the other box was, they were confused and promised a refund...which I am still waiting for at the time of this review. The other fruit was from various origins and they apologized for their being no vegetables. Shoddy customer service and ordering to say the very least on top of mysteriously disappearing product.
I can get a comically diminutive canatloupe from Mexico down the block at the grocery for literally a fraction of the price. For the price of my total order I could actually go to Mexico and get one cheaper. Everything else that I ordered (eggs, chocolate milk) were also exponentially more expensive than the grocery. And due to the driver leaving the bag sitting in the driveway in the sun instead of at the door or in the shade, the freshness was certainly in question.
Avoid this company. They make promises they don't intend on keeping. Their products are overpriced. Their website functions poorly. The products they offer aren't necessarily better quality or local. If you want local dairy products, I guarantee you can get some Anderson Dairy products at the local grocery and likely some actual produce that didn't come from another country.
I imagine they will keep stringing me along to get that deposit, so I guess this review cost me about ~$15.00 to write. Winder Farms = fail.
