| - I don't normally usually review taxi cab companies for Yelp, but as it stands, I probably should. Since Lyft does not provide airport pickups at PHX airport, I chose the next best thing.
After arrival at PHX airport on Saturday, 2/13/2016, realizing that Lyft or Uber does not do airport pickups, I hailed the nearest available cab to get to my rental car place in Glendale from Terminal 3: Delta Airlines. I noticed the Mayflower Cab Company sticker on the window during my ride and jotted down the company name and took a photo of their rate sticker in the back of the car. It was your stereotypical cab ride and I spent about $40 on it + I added a $5 cash tip. You hear stories about cabbies taking the longer route to inflate fares, but this guy didn't and used my GPS to track progress.
The Mayflower cab company is dispatched all over Phoenix, serving the city and other areas in the Phoenix vicinity. This cab was parked at the Phoenix PHX international airport and was happy that they were available at a moment's notice. There was signs near the cabs area that they do take major credit cards, so that's always the important thing for me, especially when you don't have time to locate a ATM very quickly. After the end of the ride, the cabbie pulls out a square credit reader and his tablet to process the transaction. Thought that was neat and very convenient, versus a larger machine. The rates for the ride can be steep, but you are paying for a taxi and it depends on where you are going too. I didn't realize that Glendale was a 30 minute ride from the airport, but at least the cabbie didn't take me off road to inflate the fare.
For me, it was a good average cab ride for me. We made small talk during the ride while looking at the Google GPS to make sure he was using the interstate versus other surface roads to get there in the fastest time. The cab itself was clean enough and I sat in the back seat with my luggage. Thank goodness I do pack light for my trips. Cabs are an excellent way to get around a city or town, but be wary of the prices involved. I priced it online before arriving in PHX. Most people do rent cars from the airport all the time, but for me, the rental car prices were higher than I wanted it to be, so I rented from a place in Glendale to keep costs down. The service here was good and the driver was pleasant. He got me to the place I wanted to go to without the short cuts and it was the fastest way possible. Cabs are an integral part of our fast paced society and I give them credit for being out there to serve the needs of the traveling public and to those who need them.
While I have read reviews about the horror stories by this company, I've had a much better experience. My first choice was renting a car, but to get there, I had to use a taxi, as Lyft and Uber were banned from picking up peeps there. I don't usually recommend taxi's, but if you do need them, they can be found confidently at the airport or anywhere you want them to be.
3.5 stars. Just a-okay, uneventful.
