  • THIS REVIEW MUST BE READ BY ALL PETLOVERS WHO MAY NEED TO VISIT AN EMERGENCY HOSPTAL. My 1 year old shih tzu suddenly started drooling excessively over the weekend so I took him to this hospital after reading all the reviews. I called the hospital before hand to explain them the situation and the receptionist suggested I come in and informed me that the consultation will be $99. We go in and are greeted by this Indian doctor who took a look at my pet and without asking for more details, suggested we take X-Rays and leave my pet there for a 24 hour monitoring as they wanted to do some fluid examination. The cost of all this started at roughly $800-$900, then gradually increased to $1200 and then $1900 that included a bunch of blood tests and other tests, when we saw the final statement. I am not judging the doctor's experience but when you enter an emergency clinic/hospital you are anyway on nerves' edge and generally want the best for your pet. However, we were very upset with the way he handled our pet. He did not even know how to open his mouth, neither did his assistant. It seemed to me that he has never handled a pet before. He mentioned that my pet showed no signs of clinical symptons however, we should get all the testing done. When we started to think twice about the procedure because he seemed to be very pushy about this whole thing, he asked to take another look at the pet and mentioned that he may have some inflammation in the neck and lower abdomen. The reason for such a long review is to let others know how far vets can go to get your business. When asked if, we would be able to diagnose anything after all the testing, he mentioned that we may not see the signs for a few days or even a few months. That is when it dawned on me that this is just for money. The very notion of EMERGENCY is when you need to know something urgently but if one cannot know all of that even after spending $2000 - I believe it is not worth it. We finally left the hospital letting them know that if the condition worsens, we will check in. Now the best part - I visited my local vet @ The Queen West Animal Hospital the next day and the vet checked my pet, was able to open his mouth and check for any foreign objects and informed me that my pet was fine, there was no need fr any X-Rays and drooling is common in all pets. I love QueenWest Animal Hospital, they are knowledgeable, pet lovers and treat your pet as their own. I do not recommend visiting Vetstoronto.com for any emergency as I believe I was not correctly informed about my pet's condition, symptons but rather a laundry list of what could go wrong if the testings were not done. What alarmed me the most was the contrary diagnosis of the 2 clinics. Another shocker - When we were ready to pay for the consultation at the emergency hospital, we were charged $160 which included technical assistance. Assistance that was not even able to open my pet's mouth. We were not only ripped off but my pet was misdiagnosed. Definitely not going back there again.
